Joint Preservation Surgery
Limb realignment (High tibial osteotomy)
This procedure is known as High Tibial Osteotomy and is a form of limb re-alignment surgery. Instead of replacing the joint, the aim is to keep your own knee joint. After careful assessment, a decision is made about whether this surgery would be suitable for you.
The arthritic or worn out part of the joint is off-loaded by correcting the misaligned leg and thereby removing the forces from the worn out part of the knee, making your knee pain free without having to replace the whole joint.
